Soft and outburst coal seams account for a large proportion (40%) of China's recoverable coal seams. Drilling in such coal seams, especially in areas with high geostress, has slow drilling speeds, low porosity, shallow pores, and It is easy to jam, lose or even cause coal seam fire due to overheating. Drilling in soft and outburst coal seams has always been one of the difficult problems of drilling technology at home and abroad.

In order to solve this kind of problems, experts, scholars and field technicians have been working hard to explore and try some ways to manage the collapse of holes. For example, in smooth drill pipe drilling, wind or hydraulic slag removal methods, spiral grooves are processed on the surface of the drill pipe or steel bars are wound and welded on the surface of the drill pipe to form spiral ridges. When drilling holes, the coal dust clinging to the drill pipe is pulled out by the assisting force of the spiral to dredge (wind or water) the main chip removal channel, so that drilling can continue. However, the above two methods have different defects. One is that the method of processing the spiral groove on the surface of the drill pipe reduces the cross-sectional area of the drill pipe, generates stress concentration, and the drill pipe is more easily broken. The winding welding method is one of low manufacturing efficiency and high cost, and the other is that the wound steel bars are mostly ordinary carbon steel, and the spiral ribs are quickly worn away during the drilling process.
